Harsh Surendra Dubey is a 23-year-old rising star in Indian cricket who rapidly advanced from domestic tournaments to a dream 3-wicket international debut. Harsh Dubey earned his maiden ODI cap against Afghanistan at the spectacular Dharamshala Stadium. Due to rain, the match became a fast-paced 25-overs-a-side game. Harsh bowled his maximum allowed 5 overs, picking up 3 wickets for 47 runs. He and his fellow debutante Gurnoor Brar (who also took 3 wickets) became the first pair of debutants from a major cricket nation since 1977 to pick up 3 wickets each in their very first ODI game. Their efforts bowled out Afghanistan for 194 runs.
Harsh Dubey took a long, lonely path to his dream India debut. He left his home in Pune to live in a cramped Chennai hostel room. He did this just to play club cricket and learn directly from spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin. Before every match, Harsh sits alone in total silence for 15 minutes. He closes his eyes and visualizes the exact drift, dip, and turn of his deliveries. This unique mental routine keeps him calm under immense pressure. Fans on social media joked that the heavy Dharamshala rain was a sign of drama. However, the damp weather actually helped Harsh. The wet pitch gave his left-arm spin extra bite, helping him bamboozle the batsmen and secure his historic 3-wicket haul.
