South Africa beat West Indies by nine wickets in the Super 8 match to seal their spot for the semi-finals. It was a crucial match for both these unbeaten teams and South Africa were clinical with both bat and ball. They had West Indies reeling at 83/7 in the first innings and West Indies recovered and reached a total of 176 in the first innings. South Africa chased down the target with almost four overs to spare as Aiden Markram slammed a terrific half -century. In this article we will look at what is India’s chance of qualification for the Semi-Final after this result.
India suffered a heavy defeat against South Africa and that dented their NRR too much. West Indies started their first Super 8 match with a dominating win against Zimbabwe which took their NRR to more than 5. India would have had plenty of problems to catch up with either West Indies or South Africa on the basis of NRR. So this South African win against the West Indies has left India’s fate in their own hands.

India can qualify for the semi-final by just winning their next two matches. The Net run rate is out of the equation and if India wins their next two matches, they will reach four points while West Indies will remain on 2 points. If India beats Zimbabwe then the match on March 1 between West Indies and India will be a virtual knockout game. The winner of that match will reach the semi-final along with South Africa. India just needs to win the next two games and not worry about the margin or the NRR and they will qualify for the semi-final.

South Africa will face Zimbabwe in their next game while India against Zimbabwe is set to happen now and India will take on West Indies in the final group stage match on March 1. The equation is simple and India will now hope to make it to the semi-final and even go on to defend the title.
