There are times where you feel so much joy and affection for a cricketer and then, at the same time, there are times where you can’t help but feel for the plight of some cricketers. One of them, it has to be said, is a certain Mohd Shami. Really, there’s no other way. The way he’s been ignored despite all the hardwork is a story to tell.

India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has remained grounded despite being out of the national team for a long period.

Speaking ahead of an IPL game, Shami said he still sees himself as a “mazdoor aadmi”, highlighting his simple mindset.

The experienced pacer recently returned to Eden Gardens, a venue that holds strong memories for him.

Now part of Lucknow Super Giants, Shami is looking to make the most of the opportunity in the ongoing season.

Shami has not featured for India since the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Despite recovering from injury and putting in solid performances in domestic cricket, he has not been recalled to the squad so far. However, the 35-year-old is not focusing on selection matters. Instead, he is concentrating on his performance and staying fit. His recent comments show that he prefers to keep things simple and continue working hard. Shami also dismissed any talk about retirement. He said he still has the motivation to play and wants to continue as long as he enjoys the game. With IPL 2026 in full swing, Shami now has another chance to prove his form and push for a return to the Indian team.
