World cricket may have become a touch normal and relaxed about taking shots at Gautam Gambhir, who’s known for his simple and blunt opinions and for speaking his mind over cricketing matters, but the former cricketer turned coach continues to remain a figure of intrigue for several former cricketers. One of whom includes none other than former English speedster, Steve Harrison

Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison has suggested that Gautam Gambhir may have indirectly taken aim at senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during his post-match remarks after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand national cricket team.

Team India secured a dominant 96-run victory in the World Cup title clash, and Gambhir praised the players for prioritizing the team’s success over personal milestones.

The head coach highlighted Sanju Samson as an example, noting how the wicketkeeper-batter continued playing aggressive shots despite being close to a hundred in both the semifinal and final, eventually falling just 11 runs short of a century. The Kerala batter ended the tournament with three successive scores of 85 or more, though none converted into a hundred.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Cricket YouTube channel, Harmison said he felt Gambhir’s remarks were a subtle jibe at India’s experienced duo. “I enjoyed that from Gambhir. I thought it was a dig at Rohit and Virat, talking about not being interested in milestones and only about the team winning.

I sometimes struggle with Gautam as a player and a coach. But I liked that little dig at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” Harmison said
