
India created history after beating New Zealand in the Final of the 2026 WT20 at Ahmedabad as they became the first ever team to win back to back T20 World Cup (2024 & 2026) and they also are the first team to win an T20 World Cup at home. This is the third T20 World Cup for India which is also the most by any team in the history of this event. It was a spectacular effort from Suryakumar Yadav led India as they dominated throughout the tournament and were the deserving winners. India won the inaugural T20 World Cup that was played in South Africa in 2007. It was a young team led by MS Dhoni and they defeated arch rivals Pakistan in the Final. In the very next edition, which took place in 2009 at England, it was Younis Khan led Pakistan who beat Sri Lanka in the final to win the trophy. England won the title in 2010 when they beat Australia and once again, they went on to win in 2022 when they beat Pakistan in Australia.
The 2012 edition and the 2016 WT20 belonged to the West Indies. Darren Sammy was the captain and they were the first ever team to achieve back to back T20 World Cup till England did it in 2022. In 2014, Sri Lanka won the title as they defeat India in the Final. Australia won their first ever WT20 in 2021 when they beat New Zealand in the Final. India won the 2024 WT20 against South Africa in West Indies and once again won the 2026 WT20 which took place in India.
