Prasidh Krishna delivered an excellent bowling performance in the IND vs AFG one-off Test match as he sent Sediqullah Atal back to the pavilion with a beautiful inswinger that demolished the stumps in New Chandigarh. It happened in the ninth over of Afghanistan's first inning post tea time on Day 2 of the Test match. Picking up good pace from a decent length, Prasidh managed to make the ball cut towards the left-handed batsman. While Atal attempted to drive the ball off the pitch on his legs, he could not play it as it went past his inside edge and smashed the stumps, knocking off the off-stump.

The wicket came at a crucial juncture in the match. Afghanistan had already lost opener Abdul Malik and needed some partnerships to help them get a start in batting against India's mammoth total in the first innings. But Atal's downfall for a mere 17 runs from 27 balls left them at 40/2 in the first innings. For Prasidh, who scored his first Test wicket on home soil, the wicket was quite significant.

Prasidh Krishna Makes Home Milestone as India Tighten Control

Most of Prasidh Krishna’s Test wickets have come in overseas tours

Krishna’s Test record highlights his success in overseas conditions. Before dismissing Atal, he had taken 22 wickets in six Tests, with all of those scalps coming outside India. His journey began with one wicket in Centurion against South Africa in December 2023, followed by another in Cape Town in January 2024. He then picked up six wickets in Sydney against Australia in January 2025.

His strongest returns came in England during 2025. Krishna claimed five wickets at Leeds, one at Birmingham and eight at The Oval. The wicket of Atal in New Chandigarh became his first Test scalp at home and added a new milestone to his career statistics.

India stay firmly in control in New Chandigarh

India are in a strong position in the one-off Test. Having won the toss, skipper Shubman Gill decided to take the batting option first, and they scored 564/8 after he decided to declare. Gill played his part as captain by scoring an impressive 126, and KL Rahul contributed with a century. Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant helped in scoring 81 each, and Washington Sundar closed on an unbeaten half-century.

On the other hand, Afghanistan found it difficult to cope with the huge score. Debutant Manav Suthar started off by dismissing Abdul Malik and then Krishna dismissed Atal with a brilliant inswinger. In the last session, Afghanistan were 93/3 behind India by 471 runs. Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi were at the crease, but India remained firmly in the driver’s seat with both their batters and bowlers shaping the match.
