The group stage fixtures are done and dusted at the 2026 T20 World Cup and now the focus shifts to the high voltage Super 8 round. The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each and the best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-final. This is where the action heats up and keeps the fans glued to their seats.
Hosts and defending champions India will take on South Africa in their Super 8 curtain raiser at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Men in Blue finished the group stages with a 100% win record and will look to continue the same in the matches to come. India will also hope that some of their players can finally find their rhythm heading into the final 8.

All eyes will be on Abhishek Sharma who has registered three back to back ducks at the competition so far and has not scored a single run yet. Sharma who currently holds the 1st position in the ICC men’s T20I batting rankings has not found his mojo yet. There’s a question on everyone's lips whether Abhishek Sharma should be played against South Africa or not.
The answer is an absolute yes. Abhishek Sharma is one of the finest players of white ball cricket that India has ever produced. He has done wonders on the pitch and has everything to do it all over again. It’s just that he is undergoing a rough patch at the moment and maybe a start against the Proteas is all he needs at the moment.
There’s something about players that enables them to unleash their firepower every time someone puts a question mark on their selection and Abhishek Sharma is expected to do nothing less than that against South Africa. He has the potential to win a game for India singlehandedly and has done that on multiple occasions. The team management should definitely back him during this time and give him another chance to prove his mettle.
