Just when the CSK fans were rejoicing in the good news of the former captain, MS Dhoni, returning to the nets, bad news has again struck them. If reports are to be believed, then Dewald Brevis, who suffered a side strain before the match against RR, is now ruled out of the IPL tournament. “Baby AB”, as many fans call him, will now not be able to open for the Yellow Army.
The injury crisis doesn't seem to be leaving the Yellow camp, as one by one, many of their players are getting injured. Spencer Johnson, the Australian player, has already been ruled out of the tournament. MS Dhoni was ruled out for 15 days, but has now returned to the nets, and now Brevis is suffering from a strain.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of IPL 2025 for ₹2.2 crore. Brevis, who went unsold at the initial auction, was brought in to boost CSK's batting lineup, which struggled in the first half of the season, smashing 225 runs at a whopping strike-rate of 180. He averaged over 37 with the bat, including two fifties.
CSK’s batting order in trouble?
Before the RR match in Guwahati, when the management was asked about Brewis’ strain, they were hopeful that Brewis would come back soon, but now that looks like a distant dream. CSK is already suffering from an unstable batting order, and this development would hurt them even more, as they were pinning their hopes on Brewis to solve their opening batsman issue. In Brewis’s absence, the team might repeat their openers, Samson and Ruturaj or promote the young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre to the opening position.
Lately, he featured for his national team in the concluded T20 World Cup in the subcontinent, hitting 207 runs in eight outings at a strike rate of nearly 147. His last appearance was against New Zealand in the first semifinal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where the Proteas suffered a shocking 10-wicket loss.
