Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a commanding performance in the opening match of the IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was Sunrisers Hyderabad batting first and Duffy picked up three wickets early. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy lost their wicket cheaply as SRH were in deep trouble. They lost three wickets for just 29 but Kishan and Klassen put on a terrific partnership and Aniket Verma provided the finish to the innings as SRH finished with 201/9 at the end of the first innings. Royal Challengers Bengaluru started the chase in fine fashion with both Virat Kohli and Devdut Paddikal going out all guns blazing. Devdutt Padikkal started the season with a terrific knock as he smashed 61 runs off just 26 balls. His innings included seven fours and four sixes. He played at a strike rate of 234 and it was a superb innings to kick start his campaign. He walked in when RCB lost the wicket of Salt and took on the bowlers straight away. Twitter was full of praise for his aggressive intent and praised his knock.

Virat Kohli went past yet another half-century as the chase master keeps adding to his legacy. The right-hand batter completed his half century in 33 balls and it was innings filled with class. Once again, he has proved that he is the chase master and the twitter went berserk as the King was on show tonight to entertain the fans. Rajat Patidar came in and smashed 31 runs off just 12 balls. His knock provided more impetus to the RCB innings as they cruised in the chase.

 

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru started the campaign of IPL 2026 in fine fashion as they put up a batting master class chasing down a total of more than 200. It was an all out aggressive approach and they have started on the right note. Despite losing a few wickets they were always in command of the chase.
