The highly anticipated IPL 2026 is set to kick off on 28 March, and the 5-time champion, Mumbai Indians, are struggling with the sweet headache of having so many overseas match winners, and they can only play 4 of them in the playing XI. So MI management has to make some tough selection calls on the match day.

With many overseas stars in the squad, MI may face tough selection decisions

Mumbai Indians have a total of 8 premium overseas players in IPL 2026, including Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton, Sherfane Rutherford, Corbin Bosch, Will Jacks, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, and AM Ghazanfar. All of these players regularly play for their national teams, except AM Ghazanfar. However, he is widely seen as the next Rashid Khan from Afghanistan.

Notably, out of these 8 players, the Mumbai Indians can play only 4 players on the matchday. This also shows the strength of the team and how much great work the MI management has done on the auction table.

First, choosing between Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton is a big decision for the team. De Kock, a legend of MI, is returning to the team this year, but Rickelton is a prodigy who played well last year.

Then they have to choose between Will Jacks and Sherfane Rutherford. Jacks has been outstanding with both bat and ball in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, while Rutherford had an amazing season in 2025 with the Gujarat Titans.

After Sherfane and Jack's decisions, MI can choose only 2 overseas bowlers from Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, Corbin Bosch, and AM Ghazanfar.

With these types of overseas options, the Mumbai Indians management will have to make some difficult calls in IPL 2026. Here’s MI’s probable XI for this season

Rohit Sharma (IP), Quinton de Kock, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
