The Indian Premier League has evolved into the best franchise cricket league in the world, and the level of competition is unmatched by any other in the world. World-class players from all around the world unite in the fierce battle for championship glory. The schedules of the top national cricket teams in the world are adjusted to this schedule, and that itself is a testament to the greatness of the game. The BCCI has kept their focus on repeated scrutiny of the rules and regulations to keep the standard of the game high.

However, it is to be noted that some of the rules in the IPL could even be scrapped or introduced to improve the game standards. The Impact Player rule has been one such rule that has been constantly criticised by the viewers and experts, as it nullifies the role of all-rounders. Other than those, there are also some of the rules that lead to excessive game time,e and we have often seen the game going beyond the allotted game time. Here are some of the rules that should be scrapped in the IPL 2027 season:

1) Impact Player Rule

The Impact Player rule has been under significant scrutiny by the players and experts, as it gives an edge to the batters over the bowlers. We have seen a huge change in the batting approach of teams as they know that they have an extra batting option in the side. This gives the bowlers a smaller margin for error, and they are put under significant pressure. Also, when bowlers can be substituted for batters, and vice versa, there seems to be a significant reduction in the role of an all-rounder. It would be great to see the Impact Player rule scrapped for the IPL 2027 season, to restore the balance in the game for all the players.

2) Reviews for Wide and No-Balls

The option to review for wide calls and no-balls for the bowlers just eliminates the need for an umpire in the game. Even though the game is played by fine margins, most of the teams make use of their two reviews not just to overturn the decision but for other reasons as well. In some of the games, we see the games going beyond the allocated time, and this is because of the unnecessary time that is wasted here. Restricting the use of review to just dismissals could result in a smooth flow of the game, giving the umpires a significant role to play.

3)ICC "Stop-Clock" Rule

A common feat that we saw in this year’s IPL was the captains being penalised for being unable to complete the 20 overs in the required timeline. This could lead to increased fielding restrictions and maybe even fines after the game. This could be avoided by adopting the ICC Stop-Clock Rule, in which the teams are forced to start the next over within 60 seconds or face a 5-run penalty. An implementation of this law, rather than a fixed timeline for the entire inning,s can once again help in the smooth conduct of the game and even avoid such fines for teams and their captains.
