One of the major worrying factors looking at England straight in the eye is the lack of form of star batter and exceptional cricketer, Jos Buttler. He simply hasn’t looked the part that concerns the best bowlers around the world. A total lack of runs and some hard, that visible discomfort in the middle has hurt his and his team’s chances in this World Cup.

So a big question that’s been hovering around the minds of India’s die hard fans is whether Buttler will finally get going and spoil India’s chances in the soon-to-begin semi final. A sight that no Indian fan would ever want to see.

But here’s someone eminent who has had his say-

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has played down the threat posed by England star Jos Buttler ahead of the semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Buttler has struggled badly with the bat in the tournament so far. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored just 62 runs in seven matches, averaging only 8.86 with a strike rate of 106.90. His poor run also includes five consecutive single-digit scores, with his latest outing being a two-ball duck against New Zealand national cricket team in the Super 8 stage.

Despite the slump, England captain Harry Brook recently expressed confidence that Buttler could bounce back in the high-pressure knockout clash against India national cricket team.

However, Sehwag believes it is unlikely that the England batter will suddenly produce a match-winning knock after a series of failures. Speaking about Buttler’s form, Sehwag said he is not overly concerned about the England star heading into the semifinal.

“Even if he scores, it is not as if he will score a 35-ball 100. When a batter is not in form, he tends to take 10–15 balls and then look to hit big, and he can also get out while doing that. So I am not afraid of Buttler. There are a couple of other players that I am afraid of, because if they fire, things might be difficult for us.”

Sehwag’s comments highlight the contrast between Buttler’s reputation as one of the most dangerous T20 batters and his underwhelming run in the tournament so far.
