India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reported to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru as part of his workload management plan ahead of a busy international and IPL season. The move comes as the Indian team management looks to carefully monitor Bumrah’s fitness and ensure he remains at peak condition for crucial upcoming assignments.
As per reports, Bumrah’s stint at the CoE is primarily focused on strength and conditioning. The program has been designed by the medical staff of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, keeping in mind India’s white-ball tour of England scheduled in July. During that tour, India will play five T20Is and three ODIs, making Bumrah’s fitness and rhythm critical for the team’s success.
The ace pacer is expected to gradually increase his bowling workload at the facility before linking up with Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Mumbai Indians are set to begin their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29, and Bumrah’s availability could be a major boost for the five-time champions.
Bumrah is coming off a remarkable run in international cricket, where he played a pivotal role in India successfully defending their T20 World Cup title. He delivered a match-winning performance in the final against New Zealand national cricket team, picking up 4 wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. His outstanding display earned him the Player of the Match award and further cemented his status as one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket.
In the IPL, Bumrah has been a one-club player, representing Mumbai Indians throughout his career. He has taken 186 wickets in 148 matches and is closing in on the franchise record held by Lasith Malinga. With just nine wickets separating the two, Bumrah has a strong chance to become MI’s highest wicket-taker this season.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have already begun their preparations at the iconic Wankhede Stadium as they aim to secure a record-extending sixth IPL title. With Bumrah expected to rejoin the squad soon, MI’s bowling attack could become one of the most formidable units in IPL 2026.
Bumrah’s careful workload management highlights the importance of preserving key players in modern cricket, especially with packed schedules across formats and leagues.
