India may have won yet another glittering and brilliant mega ICC event, this time the T20 World Cup 2026 (a third title in the format) but it ought to be asked- how well would the team have performed had it not been for its preeminent fast bowling mainstay, Jasprit Bumrah?
As a matter of fact whether it was taking the key and decisive wickets, first of Shimron Hetmyer in the must win quarter final clash (against the West Indies), or the key wicket of England captain Harry Brook at the Wankhede during the semi final, Bumrah was a brute force in motion and ever a tireless figure with the white ball.
He drained out the runs and with that the opposition’s run scoring making batting on the 22 yards peril nightmare.
And just when his team needed the ace fast bowler to focus now on one day internationals with the critical leg of T20I cricket now rendered complete, guess what?
Bumrah has rightly answered the team and its think-tank’s call to action.

So what are we talking about, then?
Team India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to prioritize ODI cricket over T20Is in the coming months as part of a long-term plan aimed at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. The management is reportedly keen on managing Bumrah’s workload carefully while ensuring he gets sufficient game time in the 50-over format ahead of the marquee tournament.
With the ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027, India’s think tank wants Bumrah to remain at peak fitness for the event.
As a result, the star pacer is likely to feature more frequently in bilateral ODI series over the next 18 months, while his appearances in T20Is could be limited to maintain his workload and avoid injuries. Bumrah has been one of India’s most influential bowlers across formats, particularly in ODIs where his ability to deliver during both the powerplay and death overs makes him indispensable. By focusing more on the 50-over format, the team management hopes to build a well-rounded bowling unit around him and ensure that he enters the 2027 World Cup fully prepared to lead India’s pace attack.
