Kevin Pietersen, the former Delhi Daredevils captain, posted a sarcastic tweet on X in reply to a Chennai Super Kings fan’s request. The fan had tagged the Chennai Super Kings and Kevin Pietersen, asking the club to bring in Pietersen as the mentor of the side. The former England player sarcastically replied to the tweet writing that it would be an easier travel for a holiday for him as it is closer to the Maldives.
Yes please. It’s closer to Maldives. Easier travel for me. https://t.co/ErZdo660t2

Kevin Pietersen was the team mentor for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 season and he worked in guiding the squad. But going into IPL 2026, he stepped down from the role citing time constraints and he returned to television commentary. He has played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants. The Chennai fans are desperate for the appointment of Kevin Pietersen but the Delhi Capitals wouldn’t be happy about it.
Selection Dilemmas and bowling concerns deepen CSK’s crisis
The fans of the Chennai Super Kings seem desperate to get back to winning ways as they are suggesting a shift in the coaching personnel itself. Kevin Pietersen has never played for the Men in Yellow, but he is highly regarded for his game knowledge. The struggles that the Chennai Super Kings are facing with the bat at the top of the order is evident and the inclusion of somebody like KP, could do them a world of good. The Chennai Super Kings are awaiting the return of MS Dhoni, as there are rumours that the captaincy might be handed over to Dhoni as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been on a losing streak.
There have been questionable decisions in the team selection as they are unable to utilize their foreign resources. Matt Short was benched after just one game and Akeal Hosein still hasn’t made it to the playing squad, despite Noor Ahmad being quite expensive with the ball. The woes around the bowling unit will have to be strictly considered as on paper, they are a fine bowling unit with the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Matt Henry, Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton. They produced a brilliant spell of bowling in the power play against RCB but once they were being hit for boundaries, they seemed to lack a plan.
With the Chennai Super Kings gearing up for a revival of hope against the Delhi Capitals this Saturday, their batting unit will be strengthened with the addition of Dewald Brevis. The fans will be hoping that MS Dhoni is fit for the game and that there will be a change in the fortunes for the men in yellow this season.
