Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders get a huge boost ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League as the star bowler Matheesha Pathirana is set to be fully available for the franchise from the first home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Matheesha Pathirana, who missed latter half of the T20 World Cup due to injury, is set to return to cricket for his new franchise KKR. There were speculations ahead of the tournament whether he will be available for KKR or not.
In the first phase of the IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders are set to play 3 home matches while playing 1 away game. KKR will start against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, before they move to their home ground in Kolkata. Kolkata Knight Riders has invested heavily on a few players - with Cameron Green being one of them. The all-rounder has joined KKR for a whopping INR 25.50 Crores and the team management will have very high expectations from the all-rounder.
Overall, the three-time champions are looking solid with the likes of Dishant Yagnik, Abhishek Nayar, Shane Watson joining the think tank. The team comprises of veterans plus new talent which makes a perfect blend ahead of all-important season. In 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders couldn't make it to the playoffs. The team would be expecting another 2024 show where they became champions.
