Moeen Ali recently opened up on choosing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) over the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2026 season, citing a desire for more game time, the shorter duration of the tournament, and a better work-life balance at this stage of his career. Having previously been a staple for franchises like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the 38-year-old all-rounder expressed that he wanted to prioritize active participation over potentially "warming the bench" in the highly competitive IPL.
Moeen Ali highlighted several practical factors that influenced his move to join Karachi Kings in the PSL. Reflecting on his 2025 season with KKR, Ali noted that he played only six matches and batted just twice. He emphasized that at his age, he wants to be on the field contributing rather than just being a squad member. According to him, the PSL offers a more compact window compared to the two-month-long IPL. He stated that this shorter format is better for his family and helps him manage his physical workload as he looks to extend his career.
"I chose PSL over IPL because I want to play, not just sit on the bench", the player said.
Ali mentioned he has long wanted to experience the PSL more fully, but previous scheduling clashes with the IPL made it difficult. He expressed excitement about being part of the league’s growth.
