He played 10 matches on the whole. Of these he scored 206 runs. He was able to take an underwhelming tally of 4 wickets and that’s about it. His bowling economy was nothing special. And under his captaincy, the Mumbai Indians actually ended on ninth on the IPL rankings. As far as the 2026 season is concerned. It could be said that Hardik Pandya and his Mumbai Indians have seen stellar and better days, but they belong to the past, because by the present moment is considered, then their efforts are anything but laudable and far from satisfactory.
What’s more? The trouble does not end there! Fuel exit and trade rumours, there has been a constant of late Talk in cricketing circles away from the 22 yards of course that Hardik Pandya may or no longer be seen with his Mumbai Indians franchise as far as his future in the Indian Premier League is concerned. Remember there was a time, especially at the back of the tournament with Mumbai Indians, but certain to leave the tournament where Hardik Pandya did not even feature in the playing 11 and that meant that the captaincy belong to somebody else in his absence.
On that occasion, the captaincy was given to Surya Kumar Yadav for Hardik Pandya was not available.
Whether that becomes the stabilising factor for Mumbai Indians in wants to follow in the course of the future or not, we are not sure, but one thing can be set for certain that talks have begun again about Hardik Pandya’s availability rather than lack of fit for Mumbai Indian Indians in the course of their IPL future because 2026 was nothing but a disaster for the team and for the Man from Gujarat in particular.
He is a very talented and a gifted Cricketer. Of that there is little doubt. And when he puts his mind into focus and is able to utilise the best of his abilities, then he amongst the best or rounders on any given day.
But the problem is, he’s not been able to utilise the best of himself, whether as a player for Mumbai, Indians or especially as its Captain. Because many times, it happens in the great game of Cricket that you might not be excellent with the batter ball, but with your leadership skills, you were able to get the best out of your troops and the resource resources at disposal. The same, unfortunately, did not happen for Pandya this time around.
Moreover, it seems that both fans and the think tank of Mumbai Indians isn’t particularly pleased with the right hand better and medium fast bowler. So for certain going to see Mumbai Indians without Pandya in presence with the future is concerned.
Will go back to Rohit Sharma, who’s being such a legendary captain in the past, I will Surya Kumar Yadav continue to lead as he has on some brilliant occasions, especially in Hardik Pandya was not around or will we see Jasprit Bumrah made an all time new Captain?
There are so many questions which need answering, unfortunately, there’s no clarity on the matter at the moment, but watch this space for more.
