Last evening in the tectonic world of the famous Indian Premier League was another special moment for the incredible Royal Challengers Bangalore. They once again earned a mighty fine win, ticking off all the right boxes in what was a clinical triumph over the visibly struggling Lucknow SuperGiants team. And one man in particular, a cricketer of gargantuan skill and ability, one who needs little introduction did his best to keep up with the ante of expectations and performed to the best of his ability as he helped his team usurp its competitor- the Lucknow franchise. That man is the legend Virat Kohli who started with a timely knock of 49. But yesterday was also about something as beautiful off the pitch as was action packed on it, all of it, having Kohli written over it!

A touch of class

And the incident was basically a heartwarming moment was as seen after the match when an Lucknow Super Giants cricketer showed great respect towards Virat Kohli by touching his feet. The gesture came in the post-match moments, as players from both teams interacted on the field. The young LSG player walked up to Kohli and bowed down to touch his feet, a traditional Indian way of showing respect to someone you admire. Kohli, known for his competitive nature on the field, was seen smiling and warmly acknowledging the gesture.  

 

A special moment marked by respect

Truly, cricket is always such a competitive and thrilling contest- isn’t it? But the big question is- is it only about the laudable feats of the bat and the ball and the mega records. Perhaps it’s fair to say one thing.

And it’s that it is moments like these remind fans that beyond the intense rivalry and pressure of the Indian Premier League, there is deep respect between players.

Virat Kohli has been an inspiration for many young cricketers across the country, and such gestures highlight the impact he has had on the next generation.

For the LSG player Naman Tiwari , it was clearly a special moment. And of course, why won’t it be special when the moment is all about getting the chance to share the field with one of the game’s greats and expressing admiration in such a humble way!

It also struck a chord with fans, who appreciated the mix of competitiveness and respect.

What makes Virat a great?  In a tournament filled with big hits and close finishes, it was this simple act of respect on the part of rising talent Naman Tiwari that stood out, showing the spirit of the game at its best.

But the best part of it all was to see Kohli’s reaction. He was pleasantly taken aback and very respectfully, whilst wishing Naman Tiwari well, asked him to not do so! It means that Kohli has no qualms about being gelling as an equal with the others despite his mighty standing in the game. What do you reckon?
