On this day, 12 March 2010 – IPL 2010 kicked off in India after the previous edition was held in South Africa. One of the biggest T20 leagues in the world, Indian Premier League returned to India in the 2010 edition. IPL 2009 had to be moved away from India due to elections and the event saw all the games being played in South Africa. Fans in India missed the action live from stadiums but the next year it was coming back with a bang. On this day, March 12 the first game was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils.

The first match of the IPL 2010 was held at the Navi Mumbai Stadium which saw Kolkata Knight Riders bat first against Deccan Chargers. KKR put up a score of 161/4 in the first innings. KKR lost their first two wickets with no runs on the board and it was a dramatic start. Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews scored half centuries to steady the ship and helped them reach a competitive total.

In reply Deccan Chargers could only score 150/7 and lost the game by 11 runs. Deccan Chargers put up a fifty run stand for the opening partnership but collapsed after the power play and fell short in the end. Angelo Mathews was the player of the match for his all-round performance scoring a fifty and also picking up one wicket.

IPL 2010 was held in India and saw massive crowds and it was a very good season. IPL 2010 saw Chennai Super Kings lift the title for the first time. One of the most successful franchises CSK were the runners up of the 2008 edition and did not make it to the Final in the 2009 edition but they wrote a part of their history by winning IPL 2010. Chennai Super Kings went back to back as they won the IPL title even in 2011 making them two time champions.
