On this day, February 12, 2023: Gulf Giants beat Desert Vipers to win the inaugural ILT20. These were the two best teams in the competition and it was expected that this Final would be highly competitive. Desert Vipers were batting first and it was the Carlos Brathwaite with the new ball that stood out on the big night.

The West Indian all-rounder bowled a terrific new ball spell. He picked up two wickets in his first spell and also effected a run-out as Desert Vipers were in big trouble after being reduced to 25/3. Desert Vipers captain Colin Munro also could not do much as he struggled and got out as Vipers were 44/4. Sam Billings and Wanindu Hasaranga stitched up a great partnership scoring at a quick rate and taking on the bowlers.

Desert Vipers were going along well and just as they were about to get into a strong position, it was once again Carlos Brathwaite who came in and broke the partnership picking up the wicket of Sam Billings. One brought up two as Wanindu Hasaranga was dismissed of the very next delivery. Suddenly Desert Vipers from 116/4 stumbled to 116/6 an then 130/7. A few lusty blows by Tom Curran ensured they reached a total of 146 at the end of the innings. It was a below par total but atleast they had something to bowl at.

Chasing the target, Gulf Giants lost two quick wickets including that of James Vince as they were reduced for 25/2. The game was right in the balance at that point. Chris Lynn and Erasmus put up an excellent partnership as they virtually sealed the title for Gulf Giants. Lynn smashed a half century and was brutal to most of the bowlers.

Hasaranga came into the attack and picked up the wicket of Erasmus but at that point it was a bit too late. Lynn remained unbeaten on 72 and Hetmyer who scored 25 ensured that Gulf Giants won the match with seven wickets spare and clinched the title. Carlos Brathwaite was the player of the match for his terrific three wicket haul. He had figures of 4-0-19-3 in the match.
