On this day, February 21, 2020: New Zealand beat India by 10 wickets in the Wellington Test. It was not such a memorable day for the Indian fans as almost six years to this date India were scheduled to play a Test match in Wellington. India were batting first and Tim Southee produced a masterclass with the ball. India were bowled out for 165 as Southee picked up four wickets while Jamieson too picked up four wickets.
India kept losing wickets and apart from Rahane who scored 46 no other batter could tackle the tough conditions. It was very favorable for the bowlers on Day 1 and the New Zealand pacers made full use of it.
In the second innings, New Zealand lost Latham early but Kane Williamson batting at Number 3 played a sublime knock as he completed his half century. Williamson missed out on a century as he was dismissed for 87. Ross Taylor and Williamson put up a solid partnership as New Zealand went to 166/2 and took the lead before Williamson got dismissed. New Zealand got contributions from the lower order as they finished with 358 runs in the second innings. They took a massive lead and were in the driver seat. Ishant Sharma was the star with the ball for India picking up five wickets.
India were well behind in the game and were staring at a big defeat. It was once again Southee who did the damage with the new ball. India lost Prithvi Shaw early but Mayank Agarwal and Pujara put up a good partnership as India reached 78/1. Boult and Southee combined once again as India were losing wickets and were eventually bowled out for 191. It was a rather disappointing performance from the Indian middle order once again. Boult and Southee picked up nine wickets among them and wrecked the Indian batting lineup. New Zealand were set a small target and they chased it down as New Zealand made 9/0 in the fourth innings to win the match by 10 wickets. Tim Southee was the player of the match as New Zealand sealed the match.
