On this day, January 29, 2023: India Women win inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. It was England U19 Women against India U19 Women in the Final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2022/23 at Potchefstroom. Both teams were excellent throughout the tournament and were the deserving finalists. England U19 Women were batting first and could not handle the Indian pacers. Titas Sadhu was excellent with the new ball bowling with good pace and getting the ball to move. England Women lost their opener in the first over and they were in all sorts of trouble having been reduced to 22/4 in 6.2 overs.
Archana Devi and Titas Sadhu picked up two wickets each and later Parshavi Chopra also picked up two wickets. Shafali Verma, Sonam Yadav and Mannat Kashyap all of them picked up one wicket each as England U19 Women were bowled out for just 68. It was total dominance by the Indian U19 bowlers. The highest scorer for England Women was 19 from Ryana MacDonald Gay. Six of the batters were dismissed for single digit scores.
A target of 69 was below par despite the surface offering enough for the pacers. India U19 Women captain started with a bang as she smashed a six and a four before getting dismissed for 15 of 11 balls. India U19 Women lost their first wicket for 16 and then soon Shweta Sehrawat was dismissed for five as India U19 were 20/2. Any little hopes for a comeback from England U19 Women were dashed as Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha stitched a 46 run partnership to virtually seal the game.

It was a remarkable achievement as they created history under the captaincy of Shafali Verma. India U19 Women dominated the entire tournament and it was just a sign of things to come in the future.
