On this day, July 10, 2025: England beat India by 22 runs at Lords in a thriller. It was the third match of the Test series between England and India played at the iconic Lords stadium. The series was well poised at 1-1 and it was set up to be a competitive game. England batted first and lost both their openers cheaply. Joe Root and Ollie Pope put up a terrific partnership to bring them back in the game. However Pope was dismissed for 44 and England were 153/3 with Brook coming into the middle.

Joe Root smashed a century to put England ahead while half centuries from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse ensured England scored 387 runs in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah picked up five wickets and ensured that despite the good start, England could not get past 400. India lost the wicket of Jaiswal early in the second innings. KL Rahul looked in stunning form and smashed a century while Rishabh Pant scored a 74. Ravindra Jadeja contributed with a crucial 72 run knock as India finished the second innings with 387.

 

It was a huge co-incidence that both teams scored 387 in their first innings and the game was evenly poised. In the third innings, England were bowled out for 192 as India made a massive comeback to the game. Washington Sundar was the star with the ball picking up four wickets. India were set a target of 193 to win the third test and take a lead in the series. The surface was helpful for the bowlers and India got a chance to bat in the latter stages of Day 4. India lost the wicket of Jaiswal cheaply but Karun Nair and KL Rahul put on a partnership to take India to 41/1 and they were cruising the chase.

However late on Day 4 England bowlers managed to pick up quick wickets as India were reduced to 58/4 at the end of the day 4. The final day of the match was well set up and both teams had a good chance. England came in with terrific plans on Day 5 as India kept losing wickets and were reduced to 112/8. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 61 to take India closer but he ran out of partners. With India needing 23 runs to script a win in the final session of Day 5. Mohammad Siraj defended a ball off Sjoaib Bashir which went back to hit the stumps as England picked up a 22 run win. It was a thrilling match at the iconic Lords stadium and England went 2-1 up in the series with this outstanding win.
