On this day, July 4, 2025: England Women beat India Women by five runs in a high scoring thriller. It was the third match of the series between England and India played at London. England Women were batting first and the openers got a great start in the powerplay. Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley put the pressure right on the Indian bowlers as they continued the onslaught. Both batters went past their half centuries and put up 137 runs for the opening wicket partnership.
Sophia Dunkley made 75 runs from just 53 balls before getting dismissed while Dani Wyatt smashed 66 runs as England Women had a great platform. Indian bowlers pulled things back in the middle and death overs as they reduced England Women to 171/9 at the end of the first innings. Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy were excellent as they picked up three wickets each.
It was a very good score at the halfway stage of the innings but the surface was good for batting and the match was evenly poised. India Women started the chase in brilliant fashion as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma put up 85 run partnership for the opening wickets in less than nine overs. Shafali was the first to get dismissed as she fell for 47. India Women kept losing wickets in the middle overs but Smriti Mandhana scored a half century to keep them in the game.
Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet put up a good fight but, in the end, India Women fell short by five runs as they finished on 166/5. It was a thrilling game which ebbed and flowed both sides but in the end it was England Women who came out on top. Sophia Dunkley won the player of the match award for her knock of 75 runs which proved to be the difference.
