On this day, March 13,2010: Yusuf Pathan scores a 37 ball century against Mumbai Indians. It was just the second match of IPL 2010 when Yusuf Pathan announced himself to the cricketing world with a 37 ball century against Mumbai Indians. It was the Mumbai Indian who were batting first and posted a mammoth total of 212/6 at the end of the first innings. Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu scored half centuries while Aditya Tare played a cameo later in the innings as they posted in excess of 200 and it was a well above par total.
The surface was good enough for batting but Rajasthan Royals got off the worst possible start as they lost their opener for a duck. The power play completely belonged to the Mumbai Indians and Royals kept losing wickets. They were reduced to 66/4 at the tenth over. At this point the chase seemed an impossible task.
Yusuf Pathan who had walked in at Number 3 kept playing his shots but no one supported him. Yusuf Pathan changed the gears after the tenth over and put up a masterclass with the bat as he smashed a 37 ball century which was the fastest during that time. He was unfortunately run-out after his century and in the end Rajasthan Royals suffered a loss by four runs.
It was a knock to remember as he smashed eight sixes and nine fours and completed his century. He had left a mark and first real impression in the IPL. Despite ending on the losing side, the player of the match was given to Yusuf Pathan which just showed the kind of impact that knock had. It was a single man effort and in the end, he almost took his side over the line.
