
On this day, March 15,2010: Virender Sehwag lit up the IPL for Delhi Daredevils. It was the clash between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils at the IPL 2010. Rajasthan Royals were batting first and posted a total of 141/6 in the first innings. Rajasthan Royals had a poor start to the game as they lost four wickets with just 50 runs on the board. It was a struggle for the batters on a surface that was a bit two paced. They were in early trouble but managed to find their way out.
Abhishek Jhunjhunwala along with Paras Dogra stitched up a partnership and they consolidated things. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala completed his half century and Rajasthan Royals could reach a competitive total of 141/6 at the end of the first innings. For the Delhi bowlers all four of their main bowlers picked up one wicket each and the match was evenly poised at the halfway mark.
Delhi Daredevils started off with a bang as Virender Sehwag went all guns blazing and the opening partnership put up 42 runs within the first four overs before Gambhir was dismissed. Delhi lost a couple of quick wickets and were 42/2 in the chase. This did not bother Sehwag as he continued his aggressive approach and smashed a quick fire half century.
Sehwag got good support from Dinesh Karthik and Delhi Daredevils were back in the game. Virender Sehwag smashed all the bowlers and was finally dismissed for 75 off just 34 balls. His knock included eight fours and five sixes. When Sehwag was dismissed the score of DD was 99/3 in just 10 overs and out of those 99 runs, Virender Sehwag had contributed 75 and virtually sealed the match for DD. The rest of the batters including AB de Villiers struggled but Delhi won the match in the 17th over and apart from Sehwag no other DD batters could go at a bigger strike rate. It was a whirlwind innings and he lit up the IPL with that knock.
