On this day, March 9, 2025: India beat New Zealand to win the Champions Trophy 2025. It was a memorable day for the Indian team as they clinched their second ICC Champions Trophy. This was also their second ICC trophy in less than a year, after their T20 World Cup win in 2024. India went to the Finals unbeaten and faced New Zealand in the Final. New Zealand were batting first and started really well as the openers put up a fifty-run partnership in less than seven overs. Varun Chakravarthy was introduced into the attack and immediately picked up the wicket of Will Young as New Zealand lost their first wicket with 57 runs on the board.
Rachin Ravindra continued with his positive intent but Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and picked up two wickets in quick time. He knocked over Rachin Ravindra first and then picked up the wicket of Kane Williamson as New Zealand were 75/3. Indian spinners put up a really good effort in the middle overs and New Zealand also lost Tom Latham. But they consolidated with Glenn Phillips and Mitchell putting up a partnership.

Glenn Phillips was dismissed for 34 but Mitchell and Bracewell came together and put up another good partnership as New Zealand ended with 251/7 at the end of the first innings. Bracewell was unbeaten on 53 while Mitchell had scored 63 and it looked a decent total at the halfway mark. For Indian bowlers it was the spinners picking up five wickets among them.
Chasing the target, India were off to a flier as Rohit Sharma took on the bowlers. Gill and Rohit put up a 100 run partnership as India were cruising in the chase. India lost their first wicket for 105 but soon Virat Kohli was dismissed and Rohit too fell as India were reduced to 122/3. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and KL Rahul played good cameos and held their nerve as India won the match by four wickets to win the Champions Trophy 2025. It was an excellent campaign for them winning five matches and not losing any game.
