A day after a post by Naseem Shah on X against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz went viral, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a show-cause notice to the pacer for violation of the terms of his central contract and media regulations. Naseem questioned the treatment of the chief minister and took a jibe at her by referring to her as a “queen” during the first match of PSL 2026. Although the post was eventually deleted, fans were awaiting the board’s reaction to the controversy.

The board has responded by issuing a notice to the player for violating his central contract and media regulations, stating that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the fast bowler.

“Naseem Shah is required to provide a response within the stipulated time.”

“The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game.”

There was no mention of a specific term or clause being breached by Naseem. Naseem, who represents Rawalpindi Pindiz in the PSL, is expected to play in their match against Peshawar Zalmi.

What was the controversy?

The controversy began when Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was seen attending the opening match of the Pakistan Super League as the Guest of Honour at the Gaddafi Stadium. She was welcomed by the PCB and introduced to franchise owners by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

The video was shared by the official PCB handle, following which the player’s statement quickly went viral.

Naseem Shah wrote, “Why is she being treated like a Queen at Lords?” The post spread rapidly and triggered reactions among fans.

The post was eventually deleted, and Naseem’s team later clarified on X that his account had been hacked and has since been recovered successfully.
