West Indies all-rounder Javon Searles has been provisionally suspended from all cricketing activities after being charged with multiple breaches of anti-corruption regulations related to the Bim10 tournament held in Barbados. The action was taken under the anti-corruption codes of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI).
Searles is one of three individuals who have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt activities linked to the privately organised Bim10 league. The other two individuals facing charges are Titans team owner Chitranjan “Chris” Rathod and team official Trevon Griffith.
Anti-Corruption Breaches Under Investigation
According to officials, the charges relate to attempts to improperly influence aspects of matches during the Bim10 tournament. The anti-corruption authorities have accused the trio of being involved in activities that could compromise the integrity of cricket.
The charges include alleged attempts to influence the outcome or conduct of matches and failure to report suspicious approaches related to corrupt activities. Investigators also claim that some of the accused individuals did not fully cooperate with the investigation process.
Griffith, in particular, is reported to face an additional allegation of obstructing the investigation by concealing or tampering with information that could have served as evidence.
As a result of the charges, all three individuals have been provisionally suspended, meaning they cannot participate in any form of cricket while the disciplinary process is underway.
14 Days to Respond to Charges
The anti-corruption authorities have given the accused 14 days to formally respond to the charges filed against them. During this period, the investigation and disciplinary proceedings will continue.
The ICC has reiterated its strict stance on corruption in cricket, emphasizing that safeguarding the integrity of the game remains a top priority. The governing body works closely with national boards such as Cricket West Indies to investigate and address any suspicious activities across domestic and franchise tournaments.
Searles’ Cricketing Background
Searles has previously represented the West Indies in domestic competitions and franchise cricket leagues. Known as a bowling all-rounder, he has also been part of squads in the Caribbean Premier League, including stints with the Trinbago Knight Riders.
While the investigation continues, authorities have stated that no further comments will be made until the disciplinary process reaches its conclusion.
