Punjab Kings were the runners up of IPL 2025 and were one of the most consistent teams across the tournament. Ahead of IPL 2025 they retained very few players and went into the auction trying to build a completely new squad and appointed Ricky Ponting as the coach. The first and biggest move was to buy Shreyas Iyer at the auction for their highest purse and make him the captain of the side. Under the leadership of Shreyas, the squad was built for aggressive approach. Punjab Kings have a great batting depth and a strong core group of players which go aggressive from the start. Let us look at their approach in IPL 2025.

Complimenting Uncapped Openers

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya formed a dynamic duo at the top of the order. They complimented each other beautifully at the top of the order. Prabhsimran Singh is very strong against spinners while Priyansh was excellent against pace. So they tried to take on their strengths with Prabhsimran smashing the spinners and Priyansh taking on the pacers. They provided Punjab Kings with an excellent start at the top of the order.

Josh Inglis - Shreyas Iyer - Nehal Wadhera Backbone of middle order

Shreyas Iyer began the season as Number 3 and had plenty of success at the top of the order. Later in the season, Punjab Kings brought in Josh Inglis and he predominantly batted at three while Shreyas slipped in at Number 4. Once again with the fall of an early wicket, it was Josh Inglis who was sent in while if the opening partnership went well, Shreyas Iyer was promoted to take on the spinners. While Nehal Wadhera played really well at the Number five position and with plenty of batting depth all three batters went hard while also being capable of playing the anchor role if needed.

Shashank Singh- Azmatullah Omarzai- Marco Jansen as Finishers

Punjab Kings was among the few teams who had very good finishing throughout the IPL 2025. Their average and strike rate in the death overs were one of the best in the tournament and Shashank Singh along with Omarzai and Marco Jansen were the finishers of the side for IPL 2025. So their approach was going hard from the start and not bothering about losing wickets.
