Royal Challengers Bengaluru endured a shaky start against Rajasthan Royals in their first away game of IPL 2026 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. After Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to bowl first, the decision proved spot on as RCBโ€™s top order struggled to cope with the disciplined bowling attack. Early wickets put Bengaluru on the back foot, with the Royals maintaining tight lines and building constant pressure.

Virat Kohli looked in good touch during his stay at the crease, scoring at a healthy strike rate and playing a few classy shots. However, he couldnโ€™t convert his start into a big score and fell short of a half-century, which further dented RCBโ€™s chances of building a strong foundation. With wickets falling at regular intervals, the visitors needed someone to step up and anchor the innings.

That responsibility was taken up brilliantly by Rajat Patidar, who delivered a mature and calculated performance under pressure. Walking in during a tricky phase, Patidar adjusted his natural attacking game and focused on stability. He showed great awareness of the match situation, rotating strike smartly while ensuring that the scoreboard kept moving without unnecessary risks.

Patidar went on to score a crucial half-century off just 35 balls, an innings that included four boundaries and two sixes. While the numbers may not reflect a typical explosive T20 knock, it was the timing and importance of his innings that stood out. He picked the right deliveries to attack and played with control, ensuring RCB didnโ€™t suffer a complete collapse.

His knock proved to be the backbone of RCBโ€™s innings, guiding them to a respectable total despite the early setbacks. Against a Rajasthan Royals side that is yet to lose a game this season, Patidarโ€™s effort not only showcased his versatility but also highlighted his value as a dependable middle-order batter who can adapt according to the teamโ€™s needs.
