Gujarat Titans teammates and management had widely praised Shubman Gill’s captaincy, highlighting his composed demeanour, clear communication and ability to stay calm in pressure situations. Teammates had emphasised his proactive leadership and ability to back his bowling group under pressure.

On a video posted by Gujarat Titans on their official X handle, GT’s bowler Rashid Khan was seen speaking on Gill’s captaincy and batting prowess. He had described Gill as a "very clear captain" rather than a doubtful one, praising his focused work ethic and the strong working relationship they share in the team.

“I share a very good relationship with Shubman Gill. From the beginning, I was very happy to share a leadership group with him. Whenever something happens, he definitely steps up, leading from the front, whether in batting or fielding. His decisions are very clear, and I think that is what makes his performance consistent. He is not a doubtful captain but a clear captain, and as a player, you need that kind of clarity from your captain to perform well and work as a team. The kind of effort he puts in and the hard work he does is really inspiring for all,” said the Afghanistan star spinner.

We celebrate each other and our successes, and we want to keep that momentum for the next 5 or 50 years, doesn’t matter”, he added further

Shubman Gill still BCCI's first choice as all-format skipper

A few months before the T20 World Cup 2026, Shubman Gill was dropped from the national side, failed to have form as vice captain in the Asia Cup the management took a tough decision. After a dream summer in England, Gill took over ODI captaincy from Rohit Sharma and was on his way to take over T20I captaincy from Surya Kumar Yadav, but things failed for his willow out of form.

Determined to turn his fate, Gill worked a lot on his T20 outing to find his place back in the team. Shubman Gill has been in sensational form for the Gujarat Titans in the 2026 IPL season, serving as both their captain and a primary run-scorer. Across 13 league matches, he amassed 616 runs at a strong average of 47.38 and an explosive strike rate of 161.67, including six half-centuries.

Amidst all doubts of Gill’s captaincy to be taken over by Shreyas Iyer or Sanju Samson, the BCCI declared Shubman Gill as India’s Test and ODI captain for the Afghanistan series right after IPL. According to rumours, Gill might resume as T20 Captain too. This had to be a great turnaround for Gill, and hope things only go uphill from here.
