The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have announced that they would be donning the Green Jersey on Saturday in the game against the Delhi Capitals. It has been a long standing tradition for RCB to wear the green jersey in order to raise awareness by pledging to protect the environment. They will be hopeful that they can win the game as well to make it a hat-trick of wins.

However, despite the appreciation of efforts for raising awareness, it hasnโ€™t favoured them a lot in terms of the result. They had donned a different blue jersey in 2021 against the Kolkata Knight Riders to pay tribute to the social workers involved during Covid-19 lockdowns.

From historic highs to tough phases, RCBโ€™s green jersey journey reflects performance swings beyond superstition

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have played 14 matches in the green jersey and one in the blue jersey. However, RCB has lost 9 of these matches. Some fans anticipate it as a form of bad luck as well. The most difficult phase while wearing the jersey came between 2017 and 2021 as they lost matches consecutively. But it is to be noted that from 2017 to 2019, RCB had very disappointing seasons overall and the blame cannot be put on the jersey alone.

Their infamous 49 all out had come in the 2017 season and the side hadnโ€™t qualified in the playoffs in any of those seasons. RCBโ€™s resurgence had begun from 2020 as their performances were more consistent and from then on, they qualified for the playoffs in every season except the 2023 season.

There also has been dominant performances from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well, as they scored their historic 248 against the Gujarat Lions at Chinnaswamy, wearing the green jersey. That game was considered to be one of the most destructive innings led by Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers, as both the batters scored centuries. In the 2022 season, it was Wanindu Hasaranga who stole the limelight with his exceptional bowling that led the side to a win by 67 runs. One of the most significant turning points in RCBโ€™s fortune was considered to be their loss against the KKR in 2024 by just 1 run. Since then RCB had begun their dominant reign in the IPL with a spectacular comeback in the 2024 season and their title winning run in the 2025 season.

In the last season, they played against the Rajasthan Royals and secured a thumping victory by 9 wickets. With the dominant form of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in this edition of the IPL, the colour of their jersey will not have as much impact. The fans will be confident that they can secure their 5th win of the season against the Delhi Capitals.
