Ryan Rickelton silenced his critics by smashing a record-breaking 44-ball century for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 29, 2026. Coming into the game under immense pressure due to a string of low scores, Rickelton's maiden IPL hundred became the fastest in Mumbai Indians' history, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya’s 45-ball record from 2008. Rickelton's explosive innings featured a variety of innovative and powerful strokes, particularly targeting SRH's spinners and pace-off deliveries.

Rickelton and Will Jacks (46 off 22) posted 78/0 in the first six overs, MI's second-highest powerplay score of the 2026 season. He specifically targeted SRH leg-spinner Harsh Dubey, smashing him for back-to-back sixes in the 12th over. He moved from the 80s to his century by taking 11 runs off a single Nitish Kumar Reddy over, including a six to reach 99. Rickleton played with a strike rate of 228.26 and made his century by hitting 9 fours and 7 sixes.

Ryan Rickelton silenced critics with his performance against SRH

Ryan Rickelton emphatically answered his critics by smashing a record-breaking 44-ball century for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29, 2026. Coming into the match with mounting pressure after three consecutive low scores (9, 8, and 2), Rickelton was only recalled to the side today due to a wrist injury to Quinton de Kock. He seized the opportunity to register the fastest century in Mumbai Indians' history, surpassing the 18-year-old record held by Sanath Jayasuriya (45 balls).

His 44-ball ton is now the benchmark for MI, moving him ahead of legends like Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar on the franchise's fastest-century list.Upon reaching his maiden IPL hundred, he performed a "Chris Gayle-style" celebration, placing his helmet on top of his bat to acknowledge the crowd. Before today's masterclass, Rickelton's position was heavily scrutinized by commentators like Simon Doull. After a stellar start to the season with an 81 against KKR, his form dipped significantly, leading to his temporary benching. This performance not only secures his spot but also cements him as a core part of MI's strategy for the remainder of IPL 2026.
