Rohit Sharma has truly made England one of his favorite hunting grounds when it comes to ODI cricket. The experienced Indian opener with 11,720 runs in ODIs, boasts the record for the most ODI centuries by a visiting player in England, racking up an impressive seven hundreds in just 27 innings.
Renowned for his knack for turning good starts into game-changing scores, Rohit has outshone some of the biggest names in cricket on English turf. His remarkable consistency, skill in tough conditions, and dominance during major tournaments have allowed him to reach a milestone that no other overseas batter has achieved.
This record shines even brighter when you stack it up against other legends. Virat Kohli and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara are tied for second place, each with five ODI centuries in England. Following them are Tillakaratne Dilshan and Shikhar Dhawan, who have both notched up four hundreds, while West Indies icons Desmond Haynes and Brian Lara each finished with three. Rohit also stands out as the highest run-scorer among visiting ODI batters in England, amassing 1,411 runs.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Return to Spotlight in India's Tour to England
With that, the spotlight now shifts from the statistics to the upcoming India vs. England ODI series, in which Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would have an important role to play. The Indian team will commence the three-match series in Edgbaston on July 14th, then move to Sophia Gardens on July 16th, and Lord's on July 19th. The games will be played at 3:30 PM IST, except for the Cardiff ODI which will take place at 5:30 PM IST. Shubman Gill will don the captaincy of the team, with Rohit and Kohli returning to India's ODI setup following their last match in January.
The upcoming England tour takes on increased significance because it is an important part of the preparation by India for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit and Kohli have both been exclusively playing in the 50-over format now and continue to be the most important players in India's set-up. Rohit has done well in England in the past and his performances in England and then New Zealand can play a big part in determining India's strategy leading up to the next World Cup in 2027.
