According to the reports, Rohit Sharma has communicated to the Mumbai Indians that he will not play as an Impact Player in the upcoming IPL 2026. Notably, the 38-year-old former MI captain spent most of his time on the bench as an impact player in IPL 2025 during the bowling of the team. Currently, Rohit Sharma is looking fitter than his previous 3-4-year versions and is focused on spending more time on the field to remain fit to extend his career.
Rohit Sharma will NOT play as an impact substitute in the upcoming IPL; communicated to the Mumbai Indians - Reports
According to the sources, Rohit Sharma has told the Mumbai Indians management that he will not be the Impact Player in IPL 2026. Last year, he was only coming in to bat, and during the fielding innings, he was replaced by another player as an impact substitute.
Rohit Sharma is focused on staying fit and maintaining his fitness levels with the aim of playing in the 2027 World Cup. After retiring from Test cricket and being removed from the ODI captaincy, Rohit Sharma did not want to give the selectors any reason to drop him from the squad. He has since worked very hard on his fitness to stay in contention and remain a key player for the team.
This decision of Rohit Sharma not to play as the Impact Player in IPL 2026 also looks like a decision in the same direction to remain fit and play as much as he can, as Rohit only plays the ODI and IPL, and sometimes the domestic matches.
Rohit Sharma scored 418 runs in 15 matches of the IPL 2025 with an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 149.23. He was also the second-highest run scorer for the Mumbai Indians in the 2025 season after Suryakumar Yadav.
If Rohit Sharma does not play as an Impact Player, this is also great news for his fans who were unhappy with the Impact Player role for Rohit Sharma last year, as they want to see their favorite on the field.
