Ahead of their clash with the Delhi Capitals, the Chennai Super Kings had a press conference, where key players like the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brewis were present. When asked about MS Dhoni’s future with the Chennai Super Kings, the skipper replied saying he does not know and that he (Dhoni) takes his own decisions as is probably the right the person to ask. Gaikwad remarked that Dhoni is "fitter this year" and "still looking young," noting he didn't look out of shape even on the first day of pre-season training.

“I don’t know, sir. He takes his own decisions, probably he is the right person to ask. But he is very fit, so I hope he will keep playing—we will be happier”, the skipper said.

He hilariously compared Dhoni's longevity to Sachin Tendulkar, who was still batting exceptionally well in veterans' leagues at age 51.Gaikwad explained that Dhoni's training was highly specific to his "finisher" role focusing on hitting sixes and maintaining the right swing rather than extensive batting marathons.

Several questions regarding the team were raised and Dewald Brewis was asked if he is fit for the Delhi clash or not and the young player, declared himself fit for the match.

What happened to Brevis and MS Dhoni?

During the practise camp of CSK, Brevis suffered a side strain in the beginning of the tournament which led to him missing out on key matches against the PBKS and the RCB. He has now declared himself fit and is expected to play the match against Delhi on April 11.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni suffered a calf injury at the beginning of the tournament which led to him missing the first 15 days of IPL and the iconic clash against RCB at M. Chinnaswamy stadium. As of April 8, 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that while Dhoni is undergoing rehabilitation, there is no fixed timeline for his return. Reports suggest he may need at least another week of recovery. A potential return is being targeted for the home game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 18, depending on his rehab progress.
