According to a report by PTI journalist Bharat Sharma, noted India internationals Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana have been named the BCCI’s Cricketers of the Year for 2025 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
The awards, presented annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, recognise the most outstanding performers in Indian cricket over the past year.
The spectacular right hander, Shubman Gill has enjoyed another prolific season at the top of the order for the India national cricket team, delivering consistent performances across formats and cementing his position as one of the leading batters of the new generation.
Meanwhile, the one who flourishes her blazing bat, the charismatic Mandhana continues to be one of the biggest stars of the India women's national cricket team. The stylish left-hander has produced several match-winning innings and remained a cornerstone of India’s batting line-up in international cricket.
The recognition further highlights the impact both players have had on Indian cricket in recent years, with Gill emerging as a key figure in the men’s team and Mandhana continuing to lead from the front in the women’s game.
The BCCI’s annual honours celebrate excellence across Indian cricket, acknowledging players whose performances have significantly contributed to the national teams’ success during the year.
While Smriti Mandhana had a terrific year in white ball cricket- the 2025 cricketing season in which she enjoys successes in both formats of the white ball game- Shubman Gill, who might not be in India’s present day T20I squad- enjoyed a splendid 2025 as a batter. He hit over 700 runs, most memorably and remarkably in the game’s purest format (Test match cricket) while batting away in England’s tough moving conditions.
Both are young gun cricketers and their outstanding legacies are constantly a reminder of such much that the youth can achieve once the objects and goals are set clearly for the team’s cause.
They really deserve this great feat and must continue to bat and score with great rhythm for Indian Cricket.
