In a heartwarming video shared by the Gujarat Titans team on X (formerly Twitter), Shubman Gill was seen meeting the former player Kane Williamson warmly and calling him ‘Kane Mama’ as they met. The duo met at the team's practice session at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow where Gujarat Titans will be seen going against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Kane Williamson who was formerly associated with the Titans before retiring from IPL was seen laughing at the referral. Williamson is now in the LSG squad as their strategic advisor. The term ‘Kane Mama’ gained massive popularity during Williamson's tenure with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL. Williamson has openly stated that "Kane Mama" is his favourite nickname and that he appreciates the extraordinary bond he shares with Indian fans.

Before his Test captaincy debut, Gill reportedly reached out to Williamson for advice. Williamson, an experienced former captain, has frequently praised Gill's leadership, describing him as "wise beyond his years"
