Tom Latham has quietly built an impressive record as captain of New Zealand across formats, combining calm leadership with consistent results. The left-handed opener has led the Black Caps in 72 international matches, winning 42, losing 28, while two games ended without a result, giving him an overall win percentage of 58.33. In Test cricket, Latham has captained New Zealand in 16 matches, recording eight wins, seven defeats and one draw. He was appointed New Zealand's full-time Test captain in October 2024 after Tim Southee stepped down. Under his leadership, the Black Caps scripted one of their greatest achievements by registering their first-ever Test series victory in India, completing a memorable 3-0 sweep.
Latham has also enjoyed success in One-Day Internationals. He has captained New Zealand in 44 ODIs, winning 28 matches and losing 15, with one no-result, resulting in an excellent win percentage of 63.64. His first stint as captain came during the 2017 ODI tri-series in Ireland, where New Zealand lifted the trophy. In T20 Internationals, Latham has led the side in 13 matches, registering six wins and six losses, while one game ended without a result. Although his T20I captaincy numbers are more balanced, his composed approach and tactical awareness have earned widespread praise from teammates and former cricketers alike. With experience across all formats, Latham has established himself as one of New Zealand's most dependable leaders in modern cricket.

New Zealand clinch 2-1 Test series against England with dominant win at Trent Bridge
New Zealand produced a superb all-round performance to defeat England by 160 runs in the third and final Test at Trent Bridge, sealing the three-match series 2-1. Chasing a daunting target of 373, England resumed the final day on 103/4 but were bowled out for just 212 as the visitors completed a famous victory. The result handed New Zealand their first Test series win in England since 2021 and only their fourth overall on English soil. The tourists laid the foundation for victory with an outstanding first innings of 438. Captain Tom Latham scored a magnificent 151, while Devon Conway matched him with 157 as the pair stitched together a record 317-run opening partnership against England.
England replied with 354, conceding an 84-run first-innings lead before New Zealand declared their second innings on 288/9, setting the hosts a challenging target. England's chase never gathered momentum despite Jamie Smith's fighting 60. Joe Root was run out after a brilliant piece of fielding by Henry Nicholls, while Mitchell Santner and the New Zealand bowlers wrapped up the innings with disciplined spells. Daryl Mitchell was named Player of the Match for his valuable contributions, while Nathan Smith shared the Player of the Series award. The defeat also marked the emotional end of Ben Stokes' international career, with England's legendary captain bowing out in a losing cause. New Zealand's historic triumph capped an impressive series and strengthened their credentials in the World Test Championship.
