Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has come under scrutiny after allegations surfaced regarding the conduct of his personal bodyguard during India's tour of England. As per reports, the incident took place in Cardiff, where the Indian squad arrived ahead of the second ODI of the three-match series against England on July 16. The controversy quickly gained traction and went viral on social media, with claims that Virat Kohli's bodyguard behaved inappropriately towards members of the media. According to a senior journalist, the alleged confrontation took place near the Indian team bus after the players finished their training session in Cardiff.
Several media personnel were standing in the designated zone to cover the team's departure when the incident reportedly occurred. The senior journalist claimed that the bodyguard of an Indian ODI squad member, who was not part of the T20I squad, had been repeatedly behaving inappropriately with the media. He alleged that the bodyguard continued the confrontation even after Virat Kohli had boarded the team bus.
What Happened Between Virat Kohli's Bodyguard and the Journalist in Cardiff?
Reports claim that the bodyguard directed abusive remarks towards a reporter who was standing in the assigned media area, where journalists had been asked to remain by the team's media manager. The journalist stated, "A bodyguard of a player from the Indian ODI team has been continuously misbehaving with the media present at the venue. This bodyguard was not with the T20I squad."
These allegations have gone viral on social media, with journalists and fans calling for the BCCI to look into the matter and take action. Senior journalist Abhishek Tripathi further alleged that the same individual had behaved rudely with media members in the past and claimed that the bodyguard also damaged a fan's mobile phone during the incident.
The journalist said, "The same individual, who has previously behaved rudely with the media, again abused a journalist who was standing in the designated media area, repeatedly saying 'Fk off, fk off' at the media manager's instruction. By that time, the player he was guarding had already boarded the team bus."
The incident has also brought attention to the BCCI's policy regarding private security for players during overseas tours. The allegations involving the bodyguard have raised questions over whether centrally contracted players can bring privately hired security personnel on international assignments. Players usually depend on security arrangements made by the BCCI and local authorities while travelling abroad. There has been no official statement from either the player or the BCCI regarding this matter.
