In a pulsating clash between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, it was Rohit Sharma who once again reminded everyone why he remains one of the most dangerous batters in the shortest format.
Chasing a daunting target of 221, Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma leading from the front in emphatic fashion. The veteran opener looked in sublime touch right from the outset, timing the ball to perfection and finding gaps with ease. Whether it was his trademark pull shots or effortless lofted drives, Rohit had the Wankhede crowd on its feet.
He raced to a magnificent 78 off just 38 deliveries, smashing boundaries and sixes at will. His innings included a perfect blend of aggression and control, ensuring that the required run rate never spiralled out of reach for Mumbai. At one stage, MI were cruising comfortably, thanks largely to Rohitโs dominance during the powerplay and beyond.

Outstanding Catch by Anukul Catch of Rohit Sharma in IPL 2026
However, just when it seemed like Rohit would take the game away from Kolkata, a moment of brilliance in the field turned the tide. On the fifth ball of the 12th over, bowled by Vaibhav Arora, Rohit miscued a shot towards wide mid-on. Anukul Roy produced a sensational diving effort, running backwards to complete a stunning catch and dismiss the MI skipper.
As Rohit walked back to the pavilion, he received a standing ovation from both the crowd and his teammates, acknowledging a truly special knock. Despite his dismissal, Mumbai Indians remained in a strong position, needing 51 runs from 38 balls with plenty of batting to come.
Rohit Sharmaโs innings not only set the tone for the chase but also reaffirmed his return to top form in the ongoing Indian Premier League. If this knock is anything to go by, the โHitmanโ is well and truly back โ and ready to dominate once again.
