England Test captain Ben Stokes has suffered a facial injury after being struck by a cricket ball. On Thursday, 5th February Ben Stokes posted a story on Instagram. Stokes posted a picture on Instagram showing his right eye heavily swollen and bruised, a graze on his cheek and lip, and a bandage stuffed in his nose. He captioned the picture: “You should see the state of the cricket ball.” Watch the post here

Ben Stokes has played 120 Test matches and scored 7216 runs and also picked up 245 wickets. But his batting performance at the Ashes was under the scanner where he struggled a lot. Despite that he did bowl well throughout the series and even with the results not going his way the effort cannot be faulted. He has also led England well as a captain but the recent Ashes series loss has put the pressure on him. Ben Stokes is currently playing only Test cricket and not part of the white ball set up. He has also skipped the Indian Premier League and does not feature in any franchise cricket as he looks to keep himself fit for Test cricket.
After the Ashes loss, ECB said that they will do a full review of the tour and then make the necessary changes. England head coach, Brendon McCullum who is currently in India as the coach for England in 2026 WT20 also said in an interview earlier today that he would be hoping to retain his coaching spot and he wants to achieve great things with this England team.
Ben Stokes is not part of the T20I set up and is currently in the rehab trying to get himself fully fit ahead of the start of the county championship. Under his captaincy England lost the Ashes 4-1 and there has been a lot of scrutiny towards him. He is likely to retain his spot as captain at least for the near future. Ben Stokes will next be in action for Durham in the County Championship rounds before England start their Test summer against New Zealand on June 4 at Lords.
