A tense moment unfolded during the T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand when a heated exchange broke out between Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.

The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s run chase when Arshdeep delivered a wide yorker outside off stump. Mitchell managed to squeeze the ball back down the pitch and attempted to take a quick single. However, Arshdeep quickly collected the ball and fired a throw at the stumps in his follow-through.

The throw struck Mitchell on the thigh, which immediately sparked frustration from the New Zealand batter. Mitchell turned around angrily and walked toward Arshdeep while making animated gestures, clearly unhappy with what he felt was an unnecessary throw.

Sensing the situation escalating, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav quickly stepped in to calm things down. The umpires also intervened and had a brief conversation with Arshdeep to ensure the situation did not get out of control.

Despite the heated exchange, the match soon resumed without further drama. The moment, however, added another layer of intensity to what was already a high-pressure World Cup final. After the over ended, Arshdeep Singh went to Mitchell and apologised.

Earlier in the match, India had posted a mammoth 255/5 in 20 overs, their highest-ever total in a T20 World Cup final, leaving New Zealand with a daunting chase.

The clash between Arshdeep and Mitchell has since gone viral on social media, with fans reacting to the fiery moment in the middle of one of cricket’s biggest matches.
