What a brilliant start India have had in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Abhishek Sharma chose the final to unleash his true potential and has come up with a mind blowing performance. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma took India to their highest ever power play score in the ultimate game as they scored 92 runs off the first 36 balls.
The opening duo assessed the conditions really well in the opening overs and then took the New Zealand bowlers on remand. After scoring 51 runs in the first four overs, Samson and Sharma went big Matt Henry’s over. Henry bowled four wide balls out of pressure and conceded and conceded 17 runs in the remaining balls.

During that over, Sanju Samson had a pep talk with his opening partner and told him to play his natural game because there was one more over left in the powerplay. “"Koi load nahi, ek aur over hai" (There’s no pressure, one more over is remaining)
Sanju wanted to tell Abhishek that they can get more runs in the powerplay because there is one more over left. This highlights India’s aggressive mindset to push the opposition bowlers on the backfoot from the get go.
Matt Henry started off with two back to back wide deliveries before Abhishek Sharma took a single on the first legal delivery of the over. He then bowled another wide ball before Samson rotated the strike with a single. Abhishek Sharma moved across and hit him beyond long off for a lovely six. He then gave away the strike to Sanju Samson who took a couple of quick runs.
Samson then executed a pull shot over midwicket to score another six off Matt Henry’s over. Henry conceded 21 runs in that over as India reached 72 without any loss in the first 30 balls.
