The 7th Match of the Pakistan Super League between the Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi held at the Gaddafi Stadium was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain and strong winds. In fact, the weather conditions kept worsening with the covers being blown away and some of the staff losing their balance and falling to the ground.

“Chaos in the Wind: Ground Staff Struggle as Covers Blow Away”

Several videos were circulated on social media mocking the poor facilities on the ground and the covers, as it had been blown off many times. While the covers were being brought into the pitch, there wasn’t enough ground staff to hold the covers as the wind was too strong for the crew to contain. After the covers were placed on the pitch, the crew members were walking across the pitch when the cover started to drift away due to the wind, and it threw a couple of the members to the ground.

Persistent Rain Forces Abandonment, Teams Share Points

The coin toss was scheduled to be at 6:30 PM local time, but the weather conditions showed no signs of improving. The ground staff did everything in their power to keep the ground secured, but the rain had commenced just before the toss. They kept on inspecting the pitch as the match could take place with overs being cut off. However, the match was called off 30 minutes before the cut-off time for a five-over game as the weather showed no signs of improving and the starting time could have been further delayed with the wet outfield and poor systems of the stadium.
