He was caught in the deep by De Zorzi while playing a pull shot. His innings consisted of twelve fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 126. He looked at ease especially against Keshav Maharaj. It was a innings filled with a lot of quality stroke play and batting at No 4 which is not his natural position he grabbed his chance with both hands. The acceleration in this knock was special as he scored his 50 of 52 balls and in the next 25 balls he scored 50 more runs to reach his 100 of 77 balls.
This 77 ball hundred by Ruturaj Gaikwad was also the second fastest century by an Indian player against South Africa after Yusuf Pathan 68 ball ton.
