Sanju Samson had a tough time coming into this WT20 with his place not guaranteed. He had missed the opening match against USA and got a game against Namibia due to Abhishek missing out on fever. He was benched after that. Once India suffered a massive loss against South Africa in their opening Super 8 fixture they brought in the changes and Samson was reintroduced in the side.
Samson was given the opening spot against Zimbabwe and looked in glorious touch giving India a quick start but he could not carry on and there were again doubts on whether he would be able to get a big one and convert his start. India won the game against Zimbabwe.
In the final group stage match against West Indies, he stepped up and delivered a batting masterclass. Sanju Samson kept going at a good rate and despite wickets falling from the other end, he looked secure and scored an unbeaten 97* and batted through the innings and won the game for India. It was a knock of the highest caliber and India celebrated it with him. India will face England in the semi-finals of the 2026 WT20.
