
Shimron Hetmyer was on fire at the Wankhede Stadium as the stylish left hander tore apart the Zimbabwe bowlers. West Indies were batting first and lost the first wicket with just 17 on the board as Brandon King departed cheaply. Shai Hope and Hetmyer stitched up a partnership as West Indies took advantage of the powerplay. It was Hetmyer who was the aggressive batter in the partnership. Shai Hope departed for 14 but Shimron Hetmyer kept going as he smashed a 19-ball half century. It was a stunning knock from the left hander. He brought up his half century with a massive six and saluted the crowd and the fans were treated to a spectacle.

Shimron Hetmyer scored 4 fours and 6 sixes on his way to a half century as West Indies kept motoring along. This was also the second fastest half century by a batter against Zimbabwe. Shimron Hetmyer started well and was 20 runs of 11 balls at the end of the powerplay. Just as the field restrictions got over, Hetmyer smashed two sixes in a row against Graeme Cremer. He then smashed three more sixes against Sikandar Raza in the next over to brin up his fifty. This was also the fastest half century by a West Indian in T20 World Cups as he reached the milestone in just 19 balls.

Shimron Hetmyer did not stop as he continued his onslaught even after completing his half century. He has been in sublime form and showed his class tonight. The dominance of Hetmyer was such that West Indies were 115/2 at the end of 10 overs and Hetmyer had scored 69 of those runs in just 25 balls. The other batters struggled but Hetmyer looked like he was playing on a different surface.
Hetmyer will be eyeing his maiden T20I hundred as he is in ominous touch at the half way mark. West Indies and Zimbabwe are paired along with South Africa and India in the Super 8 stage and this is a crucial match for both these teams. Wankhede was treated to a masterclass from Shimron Hetmyer and the packed crowd in the stadium certainly enjoyed it.
